For this project, we were tasked with creating a 2-3 minute film shot only on a cellphone, and then edited in Adobe Premiere. Myself and my group decided to create a short comedic skit that could best be filmed from our own homes, since due to the pandemic situation we knew it would be difficult to meet up and create a film. So, we decided to create a comedic film about a man training for a triathlon to be held over zoom using several wacky methods.
My job for this project was to play the part of the news anchor who is seen at the beginning, and who interviews the other characters in the short film. Once the filming was done, I also edited all of the video clips together, as well as the audio.
Filming using only a cellphone proved to be a unique experience, but it also showed the immense value of such a small every-day device. One of the main issues with using cellphones to record the footage was that the quality of the video would vary depending on the phone that was filming, and all together was not of the same quality of video as a film shot on a proper video camera would be. However despite the drop in video quality, the films were easily passable (showing how far our technology has come to allow for videos of decent quality to be shot on such a small device) and the quality even somewhat helped the atmosphere of short comedic skits such as this one, as the film came across as warmer and more obviously “home-made.”
